POWER THROUGH CHOICES

One of A Step Ahead Chattanooga’s goals is to fill the gaps left by Tennessee’s abstinence-only sex education policy. Through comprehensive sex education, we aim to empower youth with the knowledge and ability to make healthy choices about their bodies, health, and relationships.

Who is this for? The target audience for the Power Through Choices comprehensive sex education curriculum is youth 13-18 years of age.

What is this? Power Through Choices is an evidence-based, trauma-informed, LGBTQ-inclusive, comprehensive sex education curriculum consisting of ten 90-minute sessions, held twice weekly for a total of 15 hours of instruction over five weeks. The curriculum covers the following topics:

  • reproductive biology
  • birth control options
  • sexually transmitted infections
  • communication styles
  • empowerment through making positive choices.
