What to Expect from a Telehealth Appointment for Free Birth Control

At A Step Ahead Chattanooga (ASAC), we believe birth control should be easy to access, free, and convenient because no one should face unnecessary barriers to the care they need. That’s why we’ve partnered with Twentyeight Health to provide a full year of free birth control pills delivered straight to your door. Whether you have insurance or not, we ensure cost is never a barrier.

Telehealth birth control removes obstacles for those who may not be able to visit a clinic due to transportation challenges, limited clinic availability, work schedules, childcare responsibilities, or simply personal preference. If you’re considering telehealth for birth control, you might have questions about how it works. Here’s what to expect, from start to finish.

Who We Cover

A Step Ahead Chattanooga provides free birth control access for residents (this includes if you are currently in school) in one of the following counties:

📍 Tennessee: Bledsoe, Bradley, Franklin, Grundy, Hamilton, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Polk, Rhea, and Sequatchie.
📍 Georgia: Catoosa, Dade, Murray, Walker, and Whitfield.
📍 Alabama: DeKalb and Jackson

If you live or go to school in one of these counties, you’re eligible for free birth control through our telehealth partnership with Twentyeight Health!

Step 1: Start Your Request

There are two ways you can begin:
✔️ Fill out our intake form online OR call us at 423-265-7837 and let our staff know you’d like assistance with getting birth control pills mailed to your home.

Once we receive your request, you’ll get an email within three business days with instructions for completing our client disclosure form (a short intake form that tells us a little more about you).

Step 2: Medical Review & Consultation

Once you submit your disclosure form, you’ll receive an email from ASAC support with a special link and coupon code. This will allow you to complete a quick medical questionnaire from Twentyeight Health, which helps their doctors determine the best and safest birth control option for you.

After completing the questionnaire, you’ll have the opportunity to message a medical provider, discuss your needs, ask any questions, and finalize your prescription.

💡 Important: If you did not receive a coupon code or don’t see a place to enter it, you may be on the wrong page. Please email [email protected] for assistance.

Step 3: Insurance & Cost Coverage

💳 If you have insurance: Twentyeight Health will bill your private insurance first. ASAC covers any co-pays or deductibles, ensuring you have no out-of-pocket costs.

💰 If you don’t have insurance: No problem! We will cover the full cost of your birth control for a full year.

Step 4: Prescription Approval & Delivery

Once a medical provider reviews and approves your prescription, Twentyeight Health will send your birth control straight to your door in discreet packaging. Delivery typically takes 3-5 business days after your prescription has been written, and you’ll receive tracking information so you know when to expect your package.

Step 5: Refills & Annual Renewal

How you receive your prescription will depend on factors such as the brand, shipping pharmacy, and your insurance. Your total 13-month supply of birth control may arrive all at once or be divided into multiple shipments over time.

💡 After the year is up, if you still need help accessing birth control, you can repeat the process by filling out a new disclosure form, getting a new coupon code, and continuing to receive free birth control each year!

If you need to adjust your prescription, have further shipping questions, or have concerns about side effects, you can contact Twentyeight Health for support at any time:
