Part-Time Health Educator
(Bilingual, Fluent in Spanish and English languages)
A Step Ahead Chattanooga (ASAC) is a non-profit whose mission is to remove barriers to contraception through education, outreach, and access to free birth control.
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Program Manager, the part-time Bilingual Health Educator will assist the full-time Bilingual Health Educator in conducting education and outreach activities as needed in the 18-county service area covered by ASAC. Additionally, this position will provide limited coverage for ASAC’s appointment line and support translation of ASAC’s materials. This position will work with individuals, partners, providers, and community groups with the goal of increasing awareness, knowledge, and access to birth control and family planning tools.
Primary Responsibilities:
This position will support the full-time Bilingual Health Educator to:
- Promote and serve as a resource for birth control awareness among individuals, local support agencies, healthcare providers, and other existing social networks,
- Offer support for individuals seeking access to no-cost contraception services and/or wraparound services,
- Assist with ASAC’s appointment line, as assigned,
- Provide educational opportunities through presentations, live/virtual events, meetings, classes, training sessions, social media live streams, watch parties, events, and other educational outreach methods,
- Develop partnerships and collaborate with community agencies that serve native Spanish-speaking communities,
- Actively participate in data collection, program evaluation activities, and mandatory check-in meetings,
- Assist with translating ASAC’s materials into Spanish, including the website, social media content, video education, and other marketing/educational materials,
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Must be over the age of 18
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Minimum of three years’ experience as a health educator preferred
- Must be bilingual (Spanish/English) and able to speak, read, and write both languages fluently
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse community-based programs with mastery in delivering high-quality and culturally informed virtual and face-to-face instruction
- Confidently represent the agency independently and/or as part of a team
- Interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution, consensus building, and intuitive listening
- Representational and public speaking skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Effective time management skills
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and making 3-way calls
- Access to reliable internet and phone, as well as a quiet location to have confidential conversations with ASAC’s clients

WORK SCHEDULE: The Part-Time Health Educator will be authorized to work up to 20 hours per week. Any hours exceeding 20 hours per week must be mutually agreed upon and approved by the Executive Director in advance. Regular working hours will be mutually agreed upon.
WORK LOCATION: This position will work remotely with the expectation of frequent in-person/virtual engagements throughout the A Step Ahead Chattanooga service area.
COMPENSATION: $20.00 – 25.00/ hour, depending on experience. This is a grant-funded position, with funding secured for an initial 12-month period. As ASAC secures additional funding, the position will be extended.
BENEFITS: Up to 40 hours of paid leave annually, with unlimited paid leave for any reasonable or necessary absence as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Up to 9 paid holidays. A matched retirement savings plan is also available. Mileage is reimbursed at the Federal Rate, and employees are provided a stipend each pay period to help cover cell phone expenses.
