Susan joined A Step Ahead in 2015. She has held several positions within the organization and became ASAC’s second Executive Director in August 2019.
Susan completed her undergraduate degree in Sociology and Anthropology at UTC and also holds a Master’s in Human Services Counseling. She transitioned to the nonprofit world after a 17-year career in banking. Susan is a Leadership Chattanooga graduate and currently serves as a UT Promise Mentor.
Susan is passionate about educating others and is especially interested in breaking cycles of poverty, both here and abroad. She has served in orphanages in Haiti and Guatemala. She loves to travel, and Ethiopia is especially near to her heart. Susan has lived in the Sequatchie Valley her entire life. Because much of her spare time is spent commuting over the mountain, she is an avid podcast- and audio-book-listener. Her other hobbies include gardening and birdwatching.
Her family is a blend of biological, adoptive, and bonus children. She and her husband, Sam Tibbs, have six children between them.
