Tim Shipley

Tim is a lifelong Chattanoogan who became a volunteer and supporter of A Step Ahead Chattanooga in late 2016, after learning in early 2015 of the amazing results achieved by the Colorado Family Planning Initiative’s 5-year LARC assistance program started in 2009. He graduated from UT Chattanooga with a BA in Philosophy and has spent his career in the the financial sector, with additional volunteer and business efforts in support of Chattanooga’s start-up community.

Some of Tim’s favorite volunteer activities and projects over the years have included his work with Chattanooga Endeavors (board member), United Way (Allocations Committee, Holiday Giving Tree), Friends of Greybeard feline rescue (volunteer, advisor), Shaking Ray Levi Society (volunteer, grant writer), College Access Center (volunteer, founding board member), The Company Lab (GigTank, Will This Float?, 48Hour Launch), Lookout Valley Playhouse (of Lookout Valley Middle/High School), Access-U (organizing advisor, volunteer), and the UT Chattanooga Undergraduate Philosophy Club (volunteer, officer, grant writer).

Tim and his wife, Lavonda, live in the Hilltop neighborhood of Brainerd, along with their cat overlords – Sharpie, Sammy, and Stormy.
